England pace bowler Jofra Archer has already signaled his keen aspiration to play in the next two Tests against India, after making a sensational red-ball return to cricket in England's thrilling victory at Lord's.
Archer, 30, who had been out of action for more than four years fighting frequent injuries, made a telling start by claiming a wicket with just his third ball and ending the match with a total of 5/105.
His key contributions towards India's fourth-innings chase were instrumental in the 22-run win and England securing a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
"I can do the other two if they allow me," Archer said to the BBC. "I don't want to lose this series. I've said I wanted to play the Test summer and I wanted to play the Ashes.".
"One tick is already in place and I will do everything within my ability to be on the plane to Australia in November."
Illustrating his preparedness for Test cricket's rigours, Archer bowled 39.2 overs at electrifying pace throughout the game. His speed reliably remained above 87mph, with 41 of his deliveries crossing the 90mph threshold — a definite indicator of his fitness and form.
When he was asked if he had ever had doubts over going back to Test cricket, Archer answered emphatically.
"No. Clearly it would have been the format which would have taken most time to come back to."
Looking at the team's new era since coach Brendon McCullum took charge, Archer expressed his excitement about the setup presently.
"The guys have played some really exciting cricket since 'Baz' took over," he said.
"The team mentality with 'Baz' fits the manner in which I prefer to play. So, you know, I just couldn't wait to get back and actually do it without needing to be asked to do it."
