Asia Cup: India Face Energetic Bangladesh as They Aim for a Step Closer to the Final

India come into the match fresh from another dominating victory over Pakistan, a display that led captain Suryakumar Yadav to comment with conviction, "Where is the rivalry?" He questioned why the word was used, referencing India's strong head-to-head record in recent times.

Dubai will provide the venue for another compelling installment of the Asia Cup with India facing Bangladesh in the Super Fours.

India come into the match fresh from another dominating victory over Pakistan, a display that led captain Suryakumar Yadav to comment with conviction, "Where is the rivalry?" He questioned why the word was used, referencing India's strong head-to-head record in recent times.

Where Yadav's comments might have been brash in a different context, they are supported by India's incredible streak since January of 2024: 32 victories from 35 T20Is to make them perhaps the best T20I team there has ever been.

Bangladesh, however, come to Dubai with quiet assurance. They stunned Sri Lanka in the first round, capitalizing beautifully on the slow conditions of the pitch. Mahedi Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman did the bulk of the damage, their total of 8-0-45-5 stifling Sri Lanka's middle order as they achieved a stunning victory.

Repeating that effort against India is a tall order. Bangladesh's T20I against India is appalling, with 16 defeats in 17 games. But with the same slow pitch to be found and the humid Dubai conditions, they will pray that the conditions can provide a leveller.

India's top order is looking impenetrable. Abhishek Sharma's brilliant 74 against Pakistan showcased his blistering stand with Shubman Gill, while stability comes from Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav. The management is also trying Sanju Samson in the middle order, set to keep him in the XI even if the role needs realignment. Initial indications were of some difficulty when playing an older ball, but another chance here might prove to be the turning point. He will have to contend with Mustafizur's smart variations, which are most potent on slow surfaces.

India's strong side and Bangladesh's desire to cash in on conditions ensure that this showdown will be an enthralling one in Dubai.
