Team India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah's current-viral 'plane down' gesture celebrating the dismissal of Pakistan's Haris Rauf during the Asia Cup final in Dubai has gained general interest.
While fans replay the scene over and over again, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju posted a screenshot of Rauf's overthrown off-stump along with Bumrah's celebration, captioning: "Pakistan deserves this punishment."
India won by five wickets against Pakistan to become nine-time Asia Cup champions. The competition was not free from controversy as Pakistan players indulged in inciting actions during the match, and Team India did not have anything to do with the Men in Green, refusing to shake hands with them over the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives and inspired India's Operation Sindoor.
Earlier in the Super Fours, Rauf had made the 'plane down' sign towards Indian supporters, alluding to Pakistan's unfounded assertions of shooting down six Indian planes during Operation Sindoor. Team India waited patiently and their time arrived when Rauf's hot-tempered bowling knocked over his off-stump in the final. The pacer sent the message back in his own fashion.
After India's exciting victory, the trophy presentation became dramatic as the team refused to take the trophy from Asian Cricket Council chief and Pakistani minister Mohsin Naqvi. The trophy being held back, Naqvi finally walked off the stage, and Team India celebrated their victory trophy-less.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X to congratulate the Men in Blue. "OperationSindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same - India wins! Congrats to our cricketers," he said.
Union Home Minister Amit described the win as a "phenomenal victory". "The fierce energy of our boys blew up the rivals again. Bharat is destined to win no matter which field," he said.
