Sinner Defeats Auger-Aliassime to Reach Cincinnati Semifinals

Auger-Aliassime struggled early, committing 13 unforced errors in the first set. While the 23rd seed once led 2-0 in the second, momentum soon disappeared. Eight double faults and inconsistency from behind the baseline enabled the 23-year-old Italian to stay in charge and close out the win, ATP said.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner coasted into the Cincinnati Open semifinals with a dominating 6-0, 6-2 victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime.

The victory extends Sinner's hard-court success streak to 25 matches, and he is only the fifth man this century after Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray to do so. His previous loss on the surface was against Carlos Alcaraz in the Beijing final last October. Since then, Sinner has also won the ATP Finals and the Australian Open titles.

Now 30-3 on the season and competing in his first tournament since raising his first Wimbledon title, Sinner will next play French qualifier Terence Atmane. Atmane, having a career-busting week, defeated Holger Rune 6-2, 6-3 to qualify for his initial ATP Masters 1000 semifinal. The lefty had already beaten Taylor Fritz during the week.

By advancing to the semifinal, Atmane has earned a career-high prize money of $332,160—more than his whole season's earnings prior to Cincinnati.
