Hasin Jahan, the ex-wife of Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami, has yet again been in the eye of controversy after a neighboring house owner filed a complaint against her with the police, once again bringing her legal and personal woes into the limelight.
The FIR was filed by Dalia Khatoon, a resident of West Bengal's Birbhum district town of Suri, and contains serious allegations including assault, attempted murder, and criminal conspiracy.
According to sources, the FIR is said to have been filed due to a land dispute, and a video of the purported incident has also been widely circulated on social media. But NDTV has not been able to verify independently the genuineness of the footage.
Reports indicate that the tensions rose when Jahan started building on a property which is legally owned in the name of her daughter, Arshi. Khatoon, however, protested that the land was part of an unresolved dispute and this led to a confrontation between the two sides. Significantly, Jahan had previously reported a police case against Khatoon over the same property matter.
This isn’t the first time Jahan has made headlines. Her tumultuous relationship with Shami has been under the spotlight for several years. Recently, Jahan publicly accused the cricketer of trying to “defame her” and of “hiring criminals” in a long-standing legal tussle following their separation.
Going to Instagram after a Calcutta High Court judge ordered Shami to shell out ₹4 lakh every month for the upkeep of Jahan and their daughter Aaira, she didn't mince words.
Till my dying day, there will be a strong bond between us, Inshallah. It now depends on you to choose what kind of strong bond that will be. For 7 years, we've been engaged in a legal fight. What did you achieve from it? Due to being characterless, greedy, and mean-minded, you went ahead and destroyed your own family," she wrote.
In another entry, she went on to say, "You exploited a male society and remained happy as antisocial individuals labeled me wrong. Now I will avail myself of the support of the law, assert all our rights, and live happily, Inshallah. Now you think: whose support is stronger — social or legal?. On the day your bad time starts, these same individuals will make your life hell, Inshallah. Have faith in that."
Despite the growing public furore, Shami has refused to comment on the issue in the public domain and has not posted anything about his private life on social media.
The couple, who got married in 2014, broke up in 2018 when Jahan, a former model, accused Shami of domestic violence, and the start of a long and acrimonious legal saga.
