Apple launched its iPhone 17 series last month with the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, iPhone Air, and 17 Pro Max. Pre-bookings have already started in some markets, such as India, for the formal sale beginning September 19, with sales already surpassing that of the iPhone 16 series.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max in the Cosmic Orange colorway has proven particularly popular in the US and India, selling out there within three days, it is said. In India, the whole Pro Max family is now out of stock for in-store pre-order.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max Cosmic Orange has witnessed huge demand, with in-store pickup reservations selling out in the US and India within three days of pre-orders commencing, as per a Press Trust of India report.
An Apple expert was quoted as saying that because of huge pre-orders, the Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro Max had sold out in all storage capacities. The executive did mention that the Deep Blue model was still available in a few stores and went on to add that the backend team was working hard to replenish the orange model as quickly as possible. The phone comes in Silver too.
Apple India's website presently displays the whole iPhone 17 Pro Max series as out of stock for pre-order pickup in-store. Furthermore, the Cosmic Orange model is not being listed for pickup pre-orders for the iPhone 17 Pro Max or iPhone 17 Pro models in India.
The report further stated that the iPhone 17 series will be in limited quantities available for walk-in purchases in stores on September 19 on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-bookings for the lineup, as well as the Apple Watch Series 11, Watch Ultra 3, Watch SE 3, and AirPods Pro 3, had begun on September 12.
A recent report indicated limited availability of the iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air in India, attributing it to Apple's growing retail network and production initially focused on base models. The Pro and Pro Max models of iPhone 17 are especially low in supply, with only around 50 Pro models available in a pack of 500. Models of higher capacities are even less available, and Apple's website indicates shipping times ranging as late as September–early October, impacting even the basic iPhone 17 and iPhone Air units.
