At the launch, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed strong optimism about India’s role in the company’s future, predicting it could soon overtake the US as OpenAI’s largest market.

"India is our second-largest market globally after the US, and it could very well become our largest market. Its extremely rapidly growing, but what people are doing with AI, what Indian citizens are doing with AI, is just truly remarkable," Altman said.

He further said, "We're particularly keen on getting products into India, collaborating with local partners so that AI can be made to work well for India and become affordable for everybody across the country. We've had a lot of focus here due to the growth rate and I am looking forward to coming for a visit in September."

Altman welcomed GPT-5 as the dawn of a new chapter for ChatGPT, lauding it for its capacity to provide PhD-quality ideas. "More intelligent, faster, and very practical," the model is a massive breakthrough for what is possible through AI.

The rollout of GPT-5 touches all tiers of users—Free, Plus, Pro, and Team—which means even free users of ChatGPT will have access. OpenAI also verified that Enterprise and Edu customers will be onboarded within a week.

The company has described GPT-5 as providing a significant improvement in intelligence over its predecessors, operating at a more superior level in areas like programming, math, writing, healthcare, and visual analysis. Most interestingly, it is capable of varying its approach—deciding whether to provide a quick answer or more elaborate, reflective response depending on the context.
