Twitter blames Elon Musk for $270 mn loss in Q2 results

Musk has terminated the $44 billion Twitter deal over the presence of bots on the platform and Twitter has sued him for cancelling the deal, with the trial now set for October in a US court. In its Q2 earnings, Twitter said that its Q2 revenue totaled $1.18 billion, a decrease of 1 per cent year-over-year, "reflecting advertising industry headwinds associated with the macroenvironment as well as uncertainty related to the pending acquisition of Twitter by an affiliate of Musk".

Meta reportedly investing in Indian startup Better Opinions

The platform allows users to trade on events while matching them with a person with a complimentary trade. If the deal goes through, it will be the first time Meta will take a stake in an early-stage Indian startup, reports TechCrunch. Meta is likely to invest in the seed financing round of up to $3 million, valuing the Y-Combinator backed Better Opinions at under $25 million.
Google to roll back app permissions list on Play Store

The tech giant, however, did not specify when the permission section will be back on the Play Store, reports TechCrunch. "Privacy and transparency are core values in the Android community. We heard your feedback that you find the app permissions section in Google Play useful, and we have decided to reinstate it. The app permissions section will be back shortly," Android Developers wrote on Twitter."
Nokia bullish on India's 5G roadmap: CEO

Speaking to analysts after its Q2 earnings call, the Nokia CEO said we have to remember that there are countries and regions which haven't even really started in 5G yet. "Obviously, India is one of the most important ones here. Latin America, the same thing. It's only starting. So that's why we do believe that we are still early in the 5G cycle," he told the analysts late on Thursday.
Documents signed by Steve Jobs, other tech honchos to be up for auction

They are being included in a new "Apple, Jobs, and Computer Hardware" lot soon to go up for auction, reports AppleInsider. The Jobs document has an estimated auction price of $12,000 and a starting bid of $1,000.
New short video posts on Instagram to be shared as Reels

The platform said this feature will roll out to users in the coming weeks and it also mentioned that videos posted before this change will remain as videos and will not become Reels. "We want everyone to be able to easily express their creative ideas, so we are adding more features that allow you to capture, edit and share them -- right from your phone," the company said in a blogpost.
YouTube to crack down on abortion-related misinformation

On the microblogging platform, YouTube said it will launch an information panel under all abortion-related videos. "Starting today and ramping up over the next few weeks, we will remove content that provides instructions for unsafe abortion methods or promotes false claims about abortion safety under our medical misinformation policies," the company wrote on Twitter.
Tesla could start Cybertruck deliveries in mid-2023: Musk

TikTok fastest growing news source for UK teens, BBC loses steam

For the first time, Instagram is the most popular news source among teenagers, used by nearly three in 10 in 2022 (29 per cent). TikTok and YouTube follow closely behind, used by 28 per cent of youngsters to follow news. Chinese short video-making platform TikTok has seen the fastest increase in use of any news source between 2020 and 2022 - from 0.8 million UK adults in 2020 to 3.9 million in 2022.
