US National Rifle Association confirms 2021 ransomware attack
In a filing to the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the organisation's political action committee (PAC), explained the NRA experienced a ransomware attack on October 20, 2021, that brought its "network offline for two weeks", The Verge reported. Since the NRA was not "able to access email or network files until the second week of November", the NRA failed to report nearly $2,500 worth of donations, which was the reason for the filing, citing Gizmodo, the report said.
Apple updates Boot Camp with Studio Display drivers for Windows users
After tech giant Apple confirmed that the Studio Display works on Windows, it has now updated Boot Camp with Studio Displays drivers for Microsoft's operating system. Boot Camp 6.1.17, which is now available to users, adds support for the new Studio Display when using Windows through Boot Camp -- which is Apple's solution for installing and running Windows natively on a Mac.
Australian watchdog sues Meta over scam celebrity crypto ads on FB
The ACCC alleged that Meta aided and abetted or was knowingly concerned in false or misleading conduct and representations by the advertisers. "The essence of our case is that Meta is responsible for these ads that it publishes on its platform," the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) Chair Rod Sims said in a statement late on Friday.
Snapchat's new feature lets creators build AR experiences for landmarks
The company said the feature, which is accessible in its Lens Studio, can be used to create landmarkers for things like statues and storefronts in creators' local communities. The new feature is rolling out after first being teased at Snap's Lens Fest event back in December. The new custom landmarkers are discoverable through physical Snapcodes displayed at the landmark or on a Lens creator's profile, reports TechCrunch.
India's DigiLocker app crosses 100 million users
Launched in 2016 by the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), DigiLocker enables Indians to digitally store a copy of 568 various documents on a secure Cloud platform. Led by Aadhaar card details, the app has issued around 4.94 billion documents, so far, and currently has 101.1 million registered users. The platform that was launched under the Digital India initiative, initiated by the Indian government to digitally empower society and the knowledge economy, targets the idea of paperless governance.
