Hillary Clinton Teases: Will Nominate Trump for Nobel Prize If…

Only hours away from Trump's planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, Clinton was commenting on a podcast, "If he could end this horrible war, if he could do it without leaving Ukraine in a position that it had to give up its territory to the invader, could actually stand up to Putin, something we've not seen, but perhaps this is the moment if President Trump were the facilitator of that, I'd offer him a Nobel Peace Prize nomination."

US President Donald Trump on Friday might be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize by one of his most vocal political opponents, Hillary Clinton, if he succeeds in resolving the Russia-Ukraine war without Ukraine losing any of its territories.

Clinton also highlighted the seriousness of the meeting, commenting, "He is not greeting a friend, he is greeting an opponent who wishes to see the defeat of the US and the Western alliance."

Her remarks preceded what was billed as a "high stakes" meeting between Trump and Putin at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, a U.S. military base in Anchorage. In a video excerpt from an interview aboard Air Force One, Trump was upbeat, stating that the meeting would "work out very well - and if it doesn't, I'm going to head back home real fast."

Trump also posted a video from aboard the plane, responding to questions from reporters on what would constitute a successful summit. "I want to see a ceasefire quickly. I don't know if it's going to be today but I'm not going to be content if it's not today," he replied from amidships. "I'm in this to end the killing."

The two have a past: Trump beat Clinton to the presidency in the 2016 US presidential election. Clinton had during that campaign accused Trump of looking up to Putin before Russia invaded Ukraine, stating, "He praises dictators like Vladimir Putin and picks fights with our friends."
