US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Hamas, urging the group to swiftly agree to a peace deal with Israel or face further devastation in Gaza.
"Hamas must move quickly, or else all bets will be off. I will not tolerate delay, which many think will happen, or any outcome where Gaza poses a threat again," Trump posted on his Truth Social page. "Let's get this done, FAST."
Trump also noted that Israel had temporarily paused airstrikes to facilitate negotiations and the release of hostages, saying he appreciated the gesture “in order to give the Hostage release and Peace Deal a chance to be completed.” However, Gaza’s civil defence agency reported that Israeli forces continued to launch multiple attacks on Gaza City overnight.
According to White House officials, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff departed for Egypt on Saturday to help finalise the details of the hostage release and advance the peace plan being pushed by the US administration.
A White House source told AFP that the visit aims to coordinate final logistics surrounding the hostage negotiations and outline the implementation of Trump’s proposed plan to end the ongoing Israel–Hamas conflict.
Hamas had earlier reacted positively to the plan, which seeks to end two years of war, stating it was ready to release all hostages and enter detailed discussions through mediators.
Trump responded by calling on Israel to “immediately” halt its bombings to allow the peace process to move forward, though Israeli officials maintained that military operations were still underway in Gaza.
In the latest escalation, Gaza’s civil defense agency said at least 57 people were killed since dawn in fresh Israeli strikes, including 40 in Gaza City alone, underscoring the volatile situation even amid peace efforts.
