The Shehbaz Sharif government in Pakistan seems to be backing Army Chief Asim Munir, even after his embarrassing comments pointing out Islamabad's position in relation to New Delhi.
On his recent trip to the United States, Pakistan's de facto military boss made a derogatory comparison, terming India a "shining Mercedes" and comparing his own country to a "dump truck.
Supporting Munir's provocative characterization, Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi complimented his leadership amidst the India-Pakistan military standoff. Naqvi remembered that Munir had employed the same simile earlier this year to impress a visiting Saudi delegation in May when tensions were at their peak.
The Field Marshal said to them, 'India is like a sparkling Mercedes, but we are like a dumper truck full of stones. Just imagine the outcome if they crash.' The delegation was silent," Naqvi narrated at a seminar in Lahore.
Despite satellite imagery indicating otherwise, Naqvi declared that none of India's missiles damaged important military installations in Pakistan. His assertion is in conflict with images from Maxar Technologies, which clearly indicated widespread damage to several Pakistani air bases after India's 'Operation Sindoor.' Runways, hangars, and a number of buildings were clearly affected.
Confirming the strikes of India, Air Marshal A.K. Bharti, Director General of Air Operations, said in a briefing that India had selected its military targets deep within Pakistan with great care, underscoring that the response was "measured and calibrated."
Delivering a private dinner speech in Florida last week, Munir himself acknowledged he was going to use a "crude analogy" to explain India and Pakistan's position.
I'm going to make a gross analogy, but. India is a glistening Mercedes pulling up on a highway like a Ferrari, but we're a dump truck full of gravel. If the truck runs into the car, who loses?" said Munir, on his second U.S. visit in two months.
His comments soon went viral on the internet, with people making fun of how he spoke of his own nation. Social media users explained that the analogy made Pakistan weaker compared to India.
"The only thing true in Munir's statement is that India is the Mercedes, and his nation is the dump truck. The rest is fantasy," one user posted on X.
Another posted a photo of a Mercedes full of missiles, captioning, "India is a missile-loaded beast that's flat-out lethal. It's gonna destroy you."
A third was even more biting: "At least they know their reality. they are a dump truck and nothing else. failed marshal conceded that they are pathetic."
