India reports 2,022 fresh Covid cases, 46 deaths

Thunderstorm, rains bring down temperature in Delhi by 11 notches
At 8 a.m., the NowCast by India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the duststorm/thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds with speed of 50-80 kmph will continue over Delhi-NCR and the adjoining region for two more hours. According to IMD, the early morning thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and rains reported over Delhi is the first storm of moderate intensity this season.

First case of Covid's BA.4, BA.5 variants confirmed in India
"A-19-year-old female in Tamil Nadu has been found infected with the BA.4 variant of SARS-CoV-2," said INSACOG in a statement, adding that the patient has shown only mild clinical symptoms and has been fully vaccinated and has no travel history. Before this, a South African traveller was reported positive for the BA.4 variant on arrival at Hyderabad airport, added INSACOG. Meanwhile, a male from Telangana has been tested positive for the BA.5 variant, according to INSACOG.
Assam flood: Toll rises to 24; marginal improvement in situation
Over 7.19 lakh people have been affected in 22 of the state's 34 districts. Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) officials said that the fresh deaths were reported from Nagaon (4), Cachar and Hojai districts. Of the 24 deaths, 19 died in floods and five in landslides in different districts. An ASDMA release said 7,19,425 people, including 1,41,050,children, of 2,095 villages in 22 districts have been affected.

Delhi: Unified MCD comes into effect
On May 19, the Centre issued a notification for the merger of the three civic bodies of Delhi as the term of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) ended on May 18, while the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and East DMC completed their tenures on May 19 and 22, respectively. On May 20, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs appointed the Special Officer and Commissioner of the unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
