Govt ensured women's empowerment in armed forces in 2021
It all started with Prime Minister Narendra Modi making an announcement during his Independence Day speech on August 15 that all Sainik Schools across India will now be open for girls. Accordingly, all the Sainik Schools are now offering admissions to girls and more than 350 girls have been admitted so far.
Covid: India's vaccination coverage crosses 145cr mark
Lauding the healthcare workers' efforts, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that the year 2021 is ending on a "great note". "Ending the year on a great note by crossing the milestone of 145 crore Covid-19 vaccinations. My gratitude to our doctors, scientists, healthcare & frontline workers for displaying immense grit, determination & resolve in the challenging 2021 year," Mandaviya said in a tweet.
Vaishno Devi stampede: 12 dead, 13 injured, rescue operations under way
Those who died were devotees from Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and 1 person was from J&K. The panic that led to the casualties occurred outside the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine atop Trikuta hills.The horrifying incident occurred at around 2:45 am and the initial findings have indicated that the stampede was caused due to an argument that broke out among the pilgrims.
Border Dispute: India enhanced border infrastructure in 2021
This year, a major thrust area of the ministry of defence in the border areas has been to enhance road and transport infrastructure, aimed at strengthening defence preparedness as well as supporting local economic development in these areas. On June 28, 2021, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had inaugurated 75 projects of roads and bridges constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in six states and two Union Territories (UTs).
Over 15cr registrations completed on 'E-Shram' portal since Aug
In a statement on Friday, the Ministry of Labour and Employment said: "Over 15.53 crore registrations have been completed on the E-Shram portal till December 28. It will have the details of name, occupation, address, educational qualification, skill types and family details etc. for optimum realisation of their employability and extend the benefits of the social security schemes to them."
India focused on indigenisation in defence manufacturing in 2021
The ministry launched several major initiatives during the year to make India self-reliant in the field of defence manufacturing. Self reliance in defence is aimed at enhancing domestic manufacturing and making the country a net exporter in this field. The 'Make in India' and 'atmanirbhar Bharat' initiatives have been given major impetus during planning and procurement of equipment for the army, wherein there has been an endeavor to support the emerging defence industry in the country.
DoPT amends pay rules for IAS, IPS & IFoS, provides timeline for filing IPR
The DoPT has issued three separate notifications for the IAS, IPS and IFoS. According to a notification issued by the DoPT, "The member of the service shall file the Immovable Property Return for the previous year within the time frame specified for the purpose, i.e., January 31, for being considered for appointment in the next level of pay in the pay matrix."
In an undiplomatic move, Chinese embassy directly asks Indian minister, MPs not to attend Tibet events
In the letter, written by Political Counsellor Zhou Yongsheng, the Embassy called the Tibetan Government-in-exile an illegal separatist political group "that violates China’s Constitution and laws as, unlike their beliefs, Tibet has always been an inseparable part of China".The embassy asserted that it will not allow the Tibetans to conduct any kind of anti-China political activities.
