All parties in UP want polls on time: CEC

"In view of the increase in number of voters and also the prevailing pandemic condition, we have decided to set up 11,000 more polling booth to ensure that there is no crowding. With this, there will also be an increase in the number of polling personnel. We are also increasing the polling time by one hour across the state to prevent crowding at polling stations," Sushil Chandra said.
Community spread of Omicron has begun in Delhi: Satyendar Jain

As many as 200 Covid-19 patients have been admitted to hospitals in Delhi, of which only 102 belong to the city, he said while addressing a press conference. "Of these, Omicron variant has been found in 46 per cent cases," he said. Whether restrictions would be further strengthened or not will be decided in the next Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) meeting, he said, adding that the result of the restrictions or lockdown is seen after seven days of their imposition.
Delhi's minimum temperature drops to 3 degrees

On December 20, the city had recorded its lowest temperature of 3.1 degrees Celsius this winter season, bringing its minimum temperature five notches below normal as a cold wave swept across North India. The maximum temperature for the day has been pegged at 21 degrees Celsius, the IMD forecast said. The relative humidity at 8.30 a.m. was recorded at 94 per cent.
Covid-19 India Update: New cases double up in last two days at fastest rate ever

The new Covid infections registered were nearly double the daily tally of Covid cases recorded in the past two days. India witnessed a rise in infection by over 40% for two consecutive days. On Tuesday, the daily tally rose by nearly 47% with around 9,155, cases from the previous day's tally of around 6,242 cases.

Two Pakistanis among 6 terrorists killed in Kashmir gunfights

All the six terrorists belong to the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group, said the police. Giving more details the Jammu and Kashmir Police quoting Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar tweeted: "Six terrorists of proscribed terror outfit JeM killed in two separate encounters. Four among the killed terrorists have been identified so far as (2) Pakistani and (2) local terrorists. Identification of other two terrorists is being ascertained. A big success for us."
India reports 13,154 new Covid cases, Omicron tally reaches 961

With the addition of the new fatalities, the total death toll has climbed at 4,80,860. Meanwhile, the Omicron infection tally has climbed at 961 across the nation, of 320 patients have been discharged from hospitals. A total of 22 states have reported detected the new variant, the Ministry confirmed.
Terrorist killed in encounter in J&K's Anantnag

The firefight between terrorists and security forces took place on Wednesday after a joint team of the police and the security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about presence of terrorists.
