Among the five poll-bound states, while Uttarakhand and Goa have reported a higher vaccination coverage for the first and second doses than the national average, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Manipur have Covid vaccination coverage numbers below it.

Violet Baruah appointed as Assam’s first woman IGP
An official of the state Home Department said that Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Kokrajhar, Baruah, a 2004 batch IPS officer, has been promoted to the rank of IGP. Baruah, 59, who received the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service earlier this year, had served as the Superintendent of Police in four districts — Morigaon, Goalpara, Cachar and Barpeta.
Missionaries of Charity says accounts were not frozen
"We appreciate the concern of our well-wishers and extend our heartiest greetings for Christmas and the New Year. We would like to clarify that the FCRA registration of the Missionaries of Charity has neither been suspended, nor cancelled. Further, there is no freeze ordered by the Ministry of Home Affairs on any of our bank accounts. We have been informed that our FCRA renewal application has not been approved," the organisation said in a statement.

According to the notification of the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet, former Punjab Chief Secretary, Vini Mahajan will be the new Secretary, Drinking Water and Sanitation in the Jal Shakti Ministry while Sanjay Kumar Singh will be the new Secretary, Steel. At present he is Secretary, Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances and Pensions and Pensioners, and the post will now be held by V. Srinivas, currently Special Secretary in the Department.
Only Covaxin to be administered to children aged 15-18 yrs
The Centre on Monday issued guidelines for the vaccination of youngsters of 15-18 years and precaution dose for healthcare and frontline workers along with 60 plus population with comorbidities. The union health ministry has said that only Covaxin would be available for the children.
Five state assembly polls unlikely to be postponed
The commission has asked the government to vaccinate all those on election duty ahead of the polls. Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan submitted a report to the commission according to which the assembly polls in Manipur, Goa, Punjab, Uttarakhand and UP are likely to be held at the scheduled time as mandated by the Constitution. The assembly tenure of UP is due to end in May.
Govt did not freeze bank accounts of Missionaries of Charity: MHA
The Ministry also said that the renewal application under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) for the renewal of FCRA registration of Missionaries of Charity (MoC) was refused on December 25, 2021 for not meeting the eligibility conditions under FCRA 2010 and Foreign Contribution Regulation Rules (FCRR) 2011. It also said that no request or revision application has been received from MoC to review this refusal of renewal.

Delhi logs 331 new Covid cases, positivity rate jumps to 0.68%
The new cases and fatality took the infection tally to 14,43,683, and the death toll to 25,106, while the Covid positivity rate rose to 0.68 per cent - the highest since June 2 when it was 0.78 per cent. The number of active Covid cases have also crossed the 1,000 mark in the city and currently stand at 1,289, the highest in the last 6 months.
