Internet services shut in Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur
Though there was no official communication of the shutdown of services, a senior official said that this had been done as a precautionary measure. "We will thwart all attempts to create tension in the area. The shutdown may be lifted by evening if no untoward incident takes place," he said.

Lakhimpur violence: Demanding re-postmortem, family refuse to cremate deceased farmer
According to the farmer leaders, the last rites of three farmers was performed as wish of their families and with full customs. While one family, demanding the re-postmortem, has refused to perform the cremation. Gurvinder Singh, son of Sukhwinder Singh, resident of Makronia village of Nanpara, died in the violence.
Rahul Gandhi denied permission to visit Lucknow, Lakhimpur Kheri
Earlier, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal had sought permission for the Rahul-led delegation. In a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Congress said the five-member delegation led by Rahul Gandhi planned to visit the district. Party sources said that Rahul would also meet sister Priyanka who has been kept at the PAC guest house in Sitapur since Monday.
Lakhimpur Kheri violence: FIR clearly nails Union minister's son
The FIR has been filed under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 302 for murder, 304-A for causing death due to reckless driving, 120-B for criminal conspiracy, 147 for rioting, 279 for rash driving, 338 for causing grievous injuries to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life, along with other sections at the Tikunia police station.
Six-member SIT to probe Lakhimpur-Kheri incident
The six-member SIT will be headed by Additional SP Arun Kumar and will include Deputy SP Sandeep Singh and three inspectors. Violence broke out in Lakhimpur-Kheri on Sunday when some people mowed down protesting farmers with their vehicle, triggering a violent backlash. Nine persons were killed in the incident.
5-member Cong delegation to visit Lakhimpur Kheri on Wednesday
Earlier Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut after meeting with Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday evening said that a delegation of opposition parties is also being considered for visiting Lakhimpur. On behalf of the Congress party, General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Hooda, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel are already present in Uttar Pradesh.
India, SL armies conduct counter terrorism drills
The exercise would be conducted from October 5 to October 15. The Indian Army contingent comprising 120 personnel of Infantry Battalion Group and a similar strength from a Battalion of the Sri Lankan Army are participating in the bilateral exercise. Senior military observers and dignitaries of the Indian and the Sri Lankan armies will be witnessing the validation phase of the exercise.
Delhi reports 27 new Covid cases, no fatality in last 2 days
The city's death toll continues to be at 25,088, and the death rate at 1.74 per cent. Delhi has recorded only one death due to the infection in October so far. The Covid infection rate in the national capital is at 0.05 per cent, while the active case tally has come down to 349, with 76 patients recovering in the last 24 hours to take the total number of recoveries to 14,13,590 so far, it said.
