Rahul, Priyanka meet bereaved families in Lakhimpur Kheri

Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other leaders met the family of deceased farmer Lovepreet at the Chaukhada farm in Palia at around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. They later met the family of journalist Raman Kashyap, who was also killed in violence. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Singh Hooda accompanied the Gandhi siblings during their meetings with the farmers' families.
Delhi reports 26 fresh Covid cases, no death in 24 hrs

The city's death toll continues to be at 25,088, and the death rate at 1.74 per cent. Delhi has recorded only one death due to the coronavirus infection in October so far. The Covid infection rate in the national capital has declined to 0.04 per cent, while the active case tally has climbed to 354. With 21 patients recovering in the last 24 hours, the total number of recoveries rose to 14,13,611 so far, the health bulletin said.

However, the NCB scoffed the claims of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) spokesperson and Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik as "baseless, with malice to malign the agency's image and in retaliation against an earlier actoin of the NCB". On Wednesday afternoon, Malik had made the sensational claim that a BJP 'vice-president', Manish Bhanushali, and another 'private detective', Kiran Gosavi, were involved in the NCB operation on Sunday.

On August 26, the top court hadordered shifting of Chandra brothers, in a money laundering case involving Unitech company, to separate jails in Mumbai. The Delhi Police informed the top court that a criminal case has been lodged against the jail officials under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Southwest monsoon withdrawal commences on Wednesday: IMD

"In view of the establishment of an anti-cyclonic circulation in the lower tropospheric levels over western parts of northwest India and substantial reduction in moisture content & rainfall, we can say the withdrawal of southwest monsoon has commenced today," the IMD said in a release. The IMD had revised the date of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon last year to September 17.
Rahul, Punjab, Chhattisgarh CMs now allowed out of Lucknow airport

Less than an hour after the Uttar Pradesh government said Gandhi would be allowed to visit Lakhimpur Kheri - where violence at a farmers' protest on Sunday had left at nie dead, security personnel stopped him at the Lucknow airport.
42 squadron strength not possible in next 10-15 years: IAF Chief VR Chaudhari

Speaking to media persons ahead of the Air Force Day which is scheduled on October 8, Chaudhari said that the strength will continue to be 35 squadrons in the next decade. When asked about the S-400 missile system, Chaudhari said that the first SAM system will be inducted within this year but it will be no substitute to the fighter jets.
