No control over fake news on web portals, will get bad name for country: SC
A bench headed by Chief Justice N. V. Ramana said: "On web portals, there is no control of anybody, they can publish anything...If you go to YouTube, you will find how fake news is freely circulated and anyone can start a channel on YouTube." The bench also comprising Justices Surya Kant and A. S. Bopanna observed that the content shown in a section of private media bears a communal tone.
Delhi-NCR wakes up to heavy rainfall
"Today's spell is likely to end much earlier compared to yesterday's," said an official from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). For 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m., Safdarjung recorded 117.7 mm, Palam recorded 108.2 mm, Lodhi Road (133.6 mm), Ridge (68.4 mm) and Aya Nagar 56.2 mm rainfall. Explaining how two days of rains have already crossed the 'normal' mark for the month, an IMD official at the Safdarjung observatory said that the rainfall was 112.1 mm till 8.30 a.m. on September 1 and thereafter, next 24 hours recorded 117.7 mm, totalling to 229.8 mm.

August shortfall pushes all India seasonal rainfall deficit to -9%
Against the normal rainfall of 258 mm, the observed rainfall in August was just 195.9 mm, a departure of whopping 24 per cent from the long period average, India Meteorological Department Director General, Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, told a press conference. The IMD calculates the long period average (LPA) based on the data for years between 1961 and 2010.
