At 29K, India records lowest new Covid cases in 132 days

On March 14, India recorded 26,291 and on March 16, 28,903 new cases. The total number of deaths has reached 4,21,382 as per the government data. According to the government, 42,363 people were discharged from hospitals and health centres in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cured to 3,06,21,469 till date as the virus continued to infect less than one lakh people over the last 49 days.

Delhi reports 39 new Covid cases, one death

The daily test positivity rate in Delhi stood at 0.7 per cent, according to the bulletin. Meanwhile, a total of 80 people recovered from the disease in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 14,10,368 so far. The active caseload in Delhi presently stands at 537, of which 162 are in home isolation.

The BJP, knowing very well his strength, wanted him to announce the name of the new Chief Minister to gain momentum," a source said. However, BJP's General Secretary, Organisation, B.L. SC gives CBI free hand to probe Narayanan's framing in espionage case

Advocate Amit Sharma, counsel for Mathews, and advocate Kaleeswaram Raj, counsel for another accused, submitted that the Justice D.K. Jain Committee report has not been shared with the accused, and argued that the CBI's refusal to do so is causing prejudice to the accused in availing their statutory remedies. They also contended that the central probe agency is relying on the report in the FIR.

Government justifies higher taxes on petrol and diesel

Regarding higher prices of fuel raising inflationary pressure on the economy, the minister in his reply said that the weightage of petrol, diesel and LPG in the WPI index is 1.60 per cent, 3.10 per cent and 0.64 per cent indicating that petroleum products may not be responsible rising prices in other categories.

Rakesh Tikait said, "Uttar Pradesh is a state of agitation. Sugarcane rate has not been increased for 4 years; 12,000 crore rupees are still outstanding as dues of farmers. Electricity is free for farmers in several states but in UP the power tariffs are the highest. In UP, the government is now being run by the police, like in Gujarat."
