Basavaraj Bommai sworn-in as 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka

Hailing from socialist philosophy and now married to BJP principles, Bommai's political journey marked a new milestone as he took oath as the Chief Minister. Bommai completed 60 years on January 28. Though he is sworn in as 30th chief minister of Karnataka, he also would be considered as 23rd chief minister as many have sworn in as chief minister multiple times.
Over 43K Covid cases and 640 deaths in 24 hours in India

On Tuesday, India recorded 29,689 new Covid-19 cases, less than the 30,000-mark in 132 days, and 415 deaths. The total number of deaths has reached 4,22,022 as per the government data. According to the government, 41,678 people were discharged from hospitals and health centres in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cured to 3,06,63,147.
1.29 Crore ration cards cancelled, deleted across India

A total of 93,78,789 ration cards were cancelled or deleted in Uttar Pradesh in 2018 (43,72,491), 2019 (41,52,273) and 2020 (8,54,025) while in Maharashtra as many as 20,37,947 ration cards were cancelled or deleted with 12,81,922 in 2018, 6,53,677 in 2019 and 1,02,348 in 2020, Minister of State for Ministry of Rural Development and Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti told the Lok Sabha.

Maharashtra flood toll climbs to 209, 8 untraced so far

As many as 434,185 people have been evacuated and relocated to safer areas after their homes were submerged or badly damaged in the flood waters, which reached up to 20 feet high in some areas, with 1,351 villages directly affected by the rain fury. The largest evacuation took place from western Maharashtra districts, followed by Konkan districts.
Basavaraj Bommai chosen as new Karnataka Chief Minister

A strong Lingayat leader from north Karnataka, he was elected to the post at the legislature party meeting held at a private hotel, and chaired by Central observers, Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and G. Kishan Reddy. Yediyurappa proposed Bommai's name and it was agreed upon by the BJP legislators. Bommai will be sworn in as the 30th Chief Minister at the Raj Bhavan at 3.20 pm on Wednesday.
France to deliver all 36 Rafales to India by Jan 2022

The IAF will get  35 omni-role Rafale aircraft by the end of 2021 while the last fighter jet will  make a solo flight to the soon-to-be-activated Hashimara air base in north Bengal in January 2022. Twenty-six fighter jets have already been delivered, with 24 landing in India and two remaining in France for IAF pilot and for the purpose of technician training. Indian Rafales are equipped with specially adapted Hammer missiles.
