Delhi Covid deaths cross 25,000, govt steps up with ex-gratia
Out of the people who died due to Covid-19 pandemic since early last year, 14,091 people lost their lives from March 1 to till July 6 this year.After calculating daily Covid-related data provided by Delhi government's health administration, it emerged that 8,090 citizens lost their lives in the month of May this year, the highest ever, while the pandemic caused the second highest deaths in a month - 5,120 - in April this year.
Govt creates new Ministry of Co-operation, day before reshuffle
This ministry will provide a separate administrative, legal and policy framework for strengthening the cooperative movement in the country. The Cabinet Secretariat said, "In a historic move, a separate 'Ministry of Co-operation' has been created by the Modi government for realising the vision of 'Sahkar se Samriddhi'." It will help deepen co-operatives as a true people-based movement reaching up to the grassroots.
Leadership will decide on Chhattisgarh CM issue: T.S. Singh Deo
Talking to IANS, Singh Deo, who is in Delhi for family functions and routine checkups, said: "I have not raised any issue regarding the Chief Ministership as it is the Congress leadership that will decide on the issue." He said there is no need to take up the matter with the party as they are well aware of everything, but rubbished claims that he is in Delhi to meet Sonia Gandhi.
JD-U tasks R.C.P. Singh to negotiate for Union Cabinet berths
"We have given authorisation to R.C.P. Singh to negotiate with the BJP top leadership for ministries. He is the national President of the JD-U and he is currently in Delhi for the same," he told media persons on Tuesday. During 2019, Nitish Kumar was wanting berths according to the numbers of MPs. Sources had said that the BJP had offered only one ministry for JD-U and the party had subsequently declined to join.
Modi cabinet reshuffle to take place on Wednesday evening

Govt rebuts UN, says Stan Swamy's detention was lawful
The United Nations Human Rights on Tuesday issued a statement on his death and detention, criticising India. The international body tweeted, "We are saddened and disturbed by the death of 84-year-old human rights defender Father Stan Swamy, after prolonged pre-trial detention. With Covid-19, it is even more urgent that states release every person detained without sufficient legal basis."
NIA arrests narcotics trafficker in HM narco terror case
An NIA spokesperson said the agency has arrested Gurjant Singh alias Ashish Gattu, a resident of Amritsar, on Monday. The official said he was produced before an NIA court and sent to four days' custody of the agency. He said that during probe it was revealed that Gurjant Singh is a drug trafficker and was a close associate of the charge-sheeted accused persons in the case.
Jaishankar to visit Russia for two days on Wed
A statement from the Ministry of External Affairs said that during the visit from July 7 to 9, Jaishankar will meet his counterpart Sergey Lavrov, the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation. The discussions are expected to cover the entire range of bilateral issues, including cooperation in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic as well as exchange of views on various regional and international issues.
Amarinder meets Sonia, says will accept any decision
After the meeting which lasted an hour, Amarinder Singh said: "Whatever we discuss in such meeting with the Congress President is confidential. We can't say it in public and it is not for public consumption." "But we have discussed about the developmental issues of the state, including politics... I will accept whatever decisions will be taken by the party high command."
