Twitter to HC: Will appoint grievance officer in 8 weeks; have right to challenge IT Rules

The response from Twitter has come after the Delhi High Court on Tuesday pulled up the micro-blogging site for failing to appoint resident grievance officer (RGO), saying, "How long will your process take place? This cannot be allowed", and gave free pass to the Central government to act against the social media firm.
4 terrorists killed in two encounters in Kashmir

PM Modi to gift projects worth over Rs 400 Cr to Varanasi

The new gifts from the Prime Minister include a Central Institute for Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET). Though the final date of the prime minister's visit has not yet been finalised, official sources said that he could visit his constituency later this month. Virbhadra Singh passed away early Thursday at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH) in Shimla after a two-month-long battle with post-Covid complications, doctors said. He was 87.
India reports 45,892 new Covid cases in 24 hours

Thursday is the 30th consecutive day when India reported less than one lakh new coronavirus cases. The active cases have now come down below 5 lakh. The country has 4,60,704 active cases presently and has witnessed a total of 4,05,028 deaths so far. According to the Union Health Ministry, a total of 44,291 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total discharge to 2,98,43,825 till date.
Former Maharashtra CM Narayan Rane gets MSME Ministry

Rane, 69, was the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for a short stint in 1999 in the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance government. He had been a six-time MLA and one-time MLC in Maharashtra and had served as cabinet minister handling important portfolios such as industries, revenue, ports and animal husbandry.

Ex-IAS, IIT alumnus Ashwini Vaishnaw to take charge of IT, Communications

Vaishnaw succeeded Ravi Shankar Prasad in both ministries. Prasad was handling the IT Ministry since the Narendra Modi-led NDA government came to power in 2014, besides holding the Communications portfolio since 2019. A former IAS Officer of the 1994 batch, Vaishnaw handled important responsibilities over the last 15 years and was particularly known for his contribution to the PPP framework in infrastructure.
Six-time Himachal CM Virbhadra Singh dies of post-Covid complications

IGMCH Senior Medical Superintendent Janak Raj said that Virbhadra Singh died at 3.40 a.m., was the sitting legislator from Arki in Solan district, once the pocket borough of the BJP. He had twice recovered from Covid-19. He had suffered from heart attack on July 5 and was in the critical care unit of the IGMCH.
