Himmatram Bhambhu from Rajasthan's Nagaur district has not just raised a forest with 11,000 trees on 25 bigha land in a village near Nagaur but has planted more than five lakh trees in five years. His fights for saving the environment includes taking cudgels on behalf of the wild animals against hunters and poachers and being more vigilant than the Forest Department.
India to host Delhi Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan on Nov 10

According to a statement issued by the MEA, this National Security Advisors' level dialogue on Afghanistan will witness an expanded participation of Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, who will all be represented by their respective National Security Advisers or Secretaries of the Security Councils. Pakistan has refused to participate in this event.
Delhi's air quality to fluctuate between 'severe' and 'very poor'

Government to appoint new UGC chairperson soon

The tenure of D.P. Singh, the current chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), is ending in the first week of December. In view of this, UGC may get a new chairman by the end of December. According to the Ministry of Education, some standards have been set for the appointment of the new chairman. As per these norms, preference for the post will be given to a person with global experience in innovation. Also, the age of the applicant should be less than 60 years. The term of the chairman of the UGC is five years or till the age of 65 years -- whichever is earlier.
Centre finalises Zydus Cadila vaccine price, places order for 1 cr jabs

"Zydus Cadila has received an order to supply one crore doses of ZyCoV-D, the world's first plasmid DNA Vaccine, to the government of India at Rs 265 per dose and the needle-free applicator being offered at Rs 93 per dose, excluding GST," said a statement from Zydus Cadila.

According to an SBI Ecowrap report, states with higher PMJDY accounts balances have seen a perceptible decline in crime. "We also observed that there is both statistically significant and economically meaningful drop in consumption of intoxicants such as alcohol and tobacco products in states where more PMJDY accounts are opened," the report said.
