Modi inaugurates Kushinagar international airport

The first flight from Sri Lanka touched down at the Kushinagar airport on Wednesday morning, bringing a high-level delegation that comprised ministers and Buddhist monks. The Prime Minister pointed out that other Buddhist destinations like Lumbini, Sarnath and Bodh Gaya were at a short distance from Kushinagar which added to the importance of the Buddhist circuit.

The inauguration will be marked by landing of inaugural flight at the airport from Colombo carrying Sri Lankan delegation of over 100 Buddhist monks and dignitaries, including a 12-member holy relic entourage. The inaugural flight will also bring Buddha relics for an exposition. The airport will also serve nearby districts of Uttar Pradesh as well as Bihar.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data, the districts that observed heavy to extremely heavy rainfall were Champawat, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Almora, Pauri and Chamoli from 8.30 a.m. on Monday till 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday. There were several reports where people called the rain "multiple cloudbursts".

Delhi logs 36 new Covid cases, one death

With the latest fatality, the city's death toll has climbed to 25,090. The national capital has recorded only three deaths due to the infection in this month so far. Last month, five people succumbed to the infection. The death rate stands at 1.74 per cent. The Covid infection rate in the national capital has risen to 0.06 per cent.

Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri, who was hearing the bail plea of a dowry death accused on Sunday, also issued few guidelines considering the seriousness of the issue. The court concerned shall not mechanically extend the period of custody for a maximum period of 15 days as prescribed under Section 167(2) of the CrPC, he said.
