Kalyan Singh - the man who lived life on his terms

Born on January 5, 1935 in Aligarh, Kalyan Singh belonged to a family of farmers and was associated with the RSS since his early years. He grew up to become a teacher and then joined politics. He contested his first election in 1967 on a Jan Sangh ticket and reached the state Assembly. He won nine state elections and first became a minister in 1977.

Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee chairman Manjinder Singh Sirsa said, "All our families are safe inside the Gurdwara, although there was some movement yesterday. Around 300 people are absolutely safe." "Nothing happened to anyone. About 150 Sikhs are not in the Gurdwara premises, they are at different places. Ex-UP CM Kalyan Singh passes away after prolonged illness

Singh was admitted to the ICU of Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) on July 4 in a critical condition. On Saturday, his condition worsened due to kidney infection. He breathed his last at 9.15 pm. Singh's body has been brought to his Mall Avenue residence where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his Cabinet colleagues paid tribuites to the departed soul.
