Very sorry state of affairs: SC seeks Centre's clear stand on vacancies in tribunals
The bench read out the long-list of vacancies across the tribunals and added that 19 presiding officers, 110 judicial members, and 111 technical numbers are pending in all the tribunals. "This is the scenario of the tribunal. We do not know what is the stand of the government...", said the Chief Justice.

A bench comprising Chief Justice N.V. Ramana and Justice Surya Kant made this observation while hearing Indian Broadcasting Foundation's appeal against the Bombay High Court order upholding TRAI's new tariff order. The Chief Justice said: "You've filed 51 volumes. We had to get a lorry to carry your files to court. Do you want to terrorise us? File small volumes if you want to be heard".
Threat to judges: Chief Justice says CBI, IB not helping judicial officers
Justice Ramana said: "New trend developed in the country. No freedom given to judges. If judges complain to the IB and CBI, they are not helping the judiciary at all. This is a serious matter. I am saying it with a sense of responsibility." The bench also comprising Justice Surya Kant said in some cases where gangsters and high-profile accused are involved, they attempt to intimate judges physically and mentally.
Arbitral tribunal not a court of law, rules SC
A bench of Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice R.F. Nariman, in a judgement last week, held: "Its (arbitral tribunal) orders are not judicial orders. Its functions are not judicial functions. It cannot exercise its powers ex debito justitiae. It has been held that the jurisdiction of the arbitrator being confined to the four corners of the agreement, he can only pass such an order which may be the subject �matter of reference."
No plan to block any social media platform, says Centre
Under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, the government blocks malicious online content, in the interest of sovereignty and integrity, and defence of India, security of the state among other reasons, Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply. "At present, Government has no plan to block any social media platform in the country," he said.
Decline in terror activities in J&K post abrogation of Art 370: Security forces
According to security forces, in 2018 there were 318 terror incidents, which came down to 173 in 2019 and 142 in 2020. Till July 31 this year, 57 incidents were reported. The forces stated that in 2018 a total of 254 terrorists were killed in action, in 2019 it came down to 158 and again in 2020 it went up to 221 terrorists. Till July 31 this year, a total of 90 terrorists have been killed in the valley.
'Allegations serious if reports true': SC seeks Centre's stance on Pegasus row
Opening the argument, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Ram, submitted before a bench comprising Chief Justice N.V. Ramana and Justice Surya Kant that Pegasus is a rogue technology, and it is entirely illegal, as it infiltrates into our lives through telephone, and it hears and watches. Sibal emphasised that it is an assault on privacy and human dignity.
RS passes 3 bills as oppn harps on Pegasus, farm laws & fuel hike
Amid din the government managed to pass three bills between brief adjournments -- The Constitution (Scheduled Tribe) Order (Amendment) Bill, The Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas Bill, The Essential defence services bill, 2021. The opposition MPs in between the protests spoke on the bills but kept raising the issues of snooping, farm laws and fuel price hike.
