Delhi Assembly passes resolution against three farms laws
The resolution, moved by ruling Aam Aadmi Party member Jarnail Singh on the second day of the Monsoon session, was passed by a majority. Condemning the implementation of the three farms laws which has forced thousands of farmers to protest at three borders of the national capital since last year, AAP members slammed the Centre for its "adamant behaviour" and for not agreeing to farmers' demands to withdraw these laws.
New Karnataka CM Bommai meets PM, Nadda
After the meeting at his residence, the Prime Minister tweeted: "Met Chief Minister of Karnataka B S Bommai ji today. Conveyed best wishes as he begins a new journey for Karnataka's progress. Assured full support for the development of Karnataka." Bommai also met BJP chief J.P. Nadda. Sources said that he discussed the political situation after B.S. Yediyurappa's resignation as Chief Minister, and his cabinet expansion.
Everyone must work together to save democracy: Mamata
Before leaving for Kolkata, Banerjee said, "The visit was successful. I believe that democracy must go on and everyone has to work together to save it. When democracy is in danger, the country is in danger. 'Save democracy to save the country' is our slogan," she said. Banerjee also talked about working for the farmers, labourers, unemployed youth and others.
Can't quash FIR at third party's behest, says SC on anti-Modi posters
A bench of Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and M.R. Shah held that quashing of FIRs at behest of a third part will set a very wrong precedent in criminal law. It told advocate Pradeep Kumar Yadav, who was petitioner-in-person, to withdraw the petition, as it was not willing to entertain it. However, the top court clarified this will not come in the way of a genuinely aggrieved person, who moves court to quash an FIR.
SC gives no relief to former Maharashtra Home Minister, to hear plea Aug 3
A bench headed by Justice A.M. Khanwilkar has scheduled the matter for hearing on August 3. "List this plea on August 3 along with connected cases, so that similar orders are passed in all cases with regard to no coercive action," said the bench. The ED had issued summons to Deshmukh, a Nationalist Congress Party leader, and his son Hrishikesh seeking their appearance.
India, China to hold 12th round of military-level talks on Saturday
"The talks will begin at 10.30 am," said a military source. The latest round of talks will take place after a gap of three months. Indian military delegates will meet their counterparts to discuss disengagement of troops at the friction areas such as the Hot Springs, Gogra and the Depsang plains spread over 900 sq km land. India has insisted during the recent military commander-level meetings to resolve all the issues along the LAC.
Contempt plea in SC challenging Rakesh Asthana's appointment as Delhi police chief
In the contempt petition, Sharma claimed Asthana's appointment did not comply with the top court judgment delivered on July 3, 2018. The plea argued that the home ministry headed by Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi headed the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) knowingly and deliberately acted against the Supreme Court judgment, therefore a serious contempt of court is liable to proceed against both respondents.

Singh urged the court to give some time to his client, who has been in judicial custody for one year and three months. He added that his client is accused in three cases and recently he was granted bail in one matter.
Water level in Yamuna reaches close to danger mark: Delhi govt
The Department of Irrigation and Flood Control said it has deployed boats in different areas of the national capital and has also put 21 others on stand-by for emergency situation. The Department added that the water level increased not only due to the torrential rain in Delhi, but also because Haryana has started discharging more water into the river from the Hathinikund Barrage.
