Delhi sizzles at 42-degree C, relief likely after July 2

As per the IMD, the situation might improve on July 2 and July 3 with predictions of light rain. The IMD's regional forecasting centre on Wednesday said that the conditions are still 'not favourable' for monsoon, which will be 'delayed'. On Tuesday, Delhi had witnessed the first severe heatwave of the year with its maximum temperature soaring to 43-degree Celsius.
Centre provided 32.13 cr vax doses to states/UTs

Of this, the total consumption, including wastages, is 31,40,75,654 doses, as per the data released by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday morning. More than 73 lakh (73,00,166) balance and unutilised vaccine doses are still available with the states/UTs for administration. Also, over 24,65,980 vaccine doses are in the pipeline and will be received by the states/UTs within the next three days.
Delhi reports 94 new Covid cases, 6 deaths

The daily Covid positivity rate was at 0.12 per cent, according to a health bulletin issued by the Delhi government. The death toll in Delhi due to the Covid pandemic has risen to 24,977 till Wednesday. In the last 24 hours, a total of 240 people recovered from the disease, taking the national capital's total number of recoveries to 14,07,832 till date. A total of 79,935 Covid samples were tested in the last 24 hours, including 56,899 through RT-PCR and 23,036 through the Rapid Antigen method.
Google publishes 1st report under new IT rules, removes 59K content

Google is one of the first global tech companies to have published its transparency report in compliance with the new Information Technology (IT) Rules, 2021 (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code). "We have a long history of providing transparency into the different types of requests we receive from around the world, and how we respond. All of these requests are tracked and included in our existing Transparency Report since 2010," a Google spokesperson said in a statement.
Remove all 'pornographic, obscene' content in 1 week: NCW to Twitter

The NCW move comes a day after Delhi Police registered a case against Twitter for child pornographic content following a complaint by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). The police action was taken amid ongoing tussle between the Centre and Twitter over the new IT rules and according to officials the NCPCR complaint pertains to alleged display of child pornographic content on the social media site.

2 terrorists killed in Kulgam encounter in Kashmir

"Two unidentified terrorists killed during Kulgam encounter, operation is in progress in Chimmer area," police said. The gunfight began after a joint team of the police and the army cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about presence of terrorists. As the security forces zeroed in on the hideout, they came under a heavy volume of fire, triggering the encounter.
