PM Modi, Bennett discuss prevailing situation in Ukraine

The Russia-Ukraine war has entered its 40th day. Explosions were heard on Monday in the cities of Kherson and Odesa, in the south, while air raid sirens sounded across the east. Modi conveyed his best wishes to Bennett for early recovery after his Covid-19 diagnosis. The Prime Minister also expressed his condolences for the loss of lives in the recent terrorist attacks in Israel.
High court seeks Delhi govt's response on plea for more commercial courts

"Delhi courts have been over-burdened, as per the data available on the official website of district courts, Delhi, till February 2022, there are 26,959 cases pending in 22 commercial courts functioning in Delhi district courts," as per the petitioner. An additional 42 courts, as approved by the Delhi government on March 22, 2021, and subsequently notified on April 13, 2021, have yet to come up, it said,

India reports below 1K new Covid cases after 715 days

A total of 913 fresh Covid cases were recorded in a span of 24 hours. India had reported 991 infections on April 18, 2020. Following the same downward trend, 13 Covid related deaths occurred in a span of 24 hours taking the total number of deaths to 5,21,358. However, as per the health ministry, out of the total new deaths, six are arrear deaths reconciled by Kerala.
Army chief visits Singapore to enhance military ties

He has proceeded on Singapore visit from April 4 to April 6. During the visit, he will be meeting senior military and civilian leadership of the country. On April 4, General Naravane will lay a wreath at the Kranji War Memorial. The Army Chief is scheduled to call on the Minister of Defence, Chief of Singapore Army and other senior dignitaries where he will discuss avenues for enhancing India-Singapore defence relations.
Vice chief Lt Gen Manoj Pande all set to become Army chief

Lt Gen Pande will take over the reign as he is the senior most in the force after General Naravane. In the meantime, Gen Naravane is the front runner for the post of Chief of Defence Staff after the passing of General Bipin Rawat in a helicopter crash December last year. General Rawat, his wife Madhulika and 12 armed personnel were killed in a chopper crash on December 8, 2021.
India says troops not going to Sri Lanka, calls reports untrue

Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka "strongly" denied "blatantly false and completely baseless reports in a section of media that India is dispatching its soldiers to Sri Lanka". The High Commission also "condemned such irresponsible reporting and expects the concerned to desist from spreading rumours". To prevent unrest in the country, the Sri Lankan government has announced to impose a curfew from Saturday 6 p.m. to Monday 6 a.m.

When Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, on Friday evening, called PM Modi before wrapping up his India visit, the latter offered to contribute in any way to put an end to Russia-Ukraine conflict. So far Turkey, Israel and France have stood out for offering their good offices to defuse tensions between Moscow and Kiev.
