Chandrachud and Surya Kant said: "For the time being in view of particular measures by the government of India and notification dated December 2, we direct the government of India and GNCTD to implement those measures. We'll keep the matter pending and list it (the matter) next Friday."

The decision by the state government to suspend the 1988 batch IPS officer - who was declared a 'Proclaimed Offender' by a Mumbai Court in November - follows a probe report submitted by Additional Chief Secretary Debashish Chakravarti. Among other things, the report had recommended action against Singh for defying the All India Civil Service Rules, sudden "unauthorised absence from duty" after which he became "untraceable" for nearly six months before resurfacing a week ago (last Thursday) in Mumbai.

A total of 391 deaths were reported across the nation taking the toll to 4,70,115, said the Ministry of Health and Family welfare on Friday morning. The recovery of 8,612 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally to 3,40,45,666. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.35 per cent, highest since March 2020.
