WhatsApp says banned over 2 mn accounts in India in Oct
WhatsApp on Wednesday said that it banned over two million accounts in India in October in compliance with the new IT Rules 2021. The Meta-owned platform also WhatsApp also received 500 grievance reports in the same month, and took action on only 18 of those. "As captured in the latest monthly Report, WhatsApp banned over 2 million accounts in the month of October," the Whatsapp spokesperson said.
Omicron situation being monitored, final decision on int'l flights resumption soon: DGCA
According to civil aviation regulator DGCA, stakeholders are being consulted on the evolving situation. "In view of the evolving global scenario with the emergence of new 'Variants of Concern', the situation is being watched closely in consultation with all stakeholders," the DGCA said in a circular issued on Wednesday. "An appropriate decision indicating the effective date of resumption of scheduled commercial international passenger services shall be notified in due course." Earlier, India had decided to allow resumption of scheduled commercial international passenger services from December 15.

Koregaon-Bhima case: HC grants bail to activist Sudha Bharadwaj
A division bench comprising Justice S.S. Shinde and Justice N.J. Jamadar has directed that Bharadwaj should be produced before the Special NIA Court next Wednesday which will impose the bail conditions and finalise her release. The National Investigation Agency, which had opposed her bail plea, has sought two weeks' time stay on the order, hinting it may challenge the high court decision. Bharadwaj becomes the first accused to get a default bail. Earlier some accused like P. Varavara Rao were granted bail on medical grounds while one accused Fr. Stan Lourduswamy passed away in custody in July after a prolonged illness.

At 8,954, India sees a marginal rise in new Covid cases
On Tuesday, India had reported 6,990 cases only. The Wednesday's count of new cases continues to be below the 10,000-mark for the fifth day in a row. A total of 267 deaths were registered in the last 24 hours taking the toll to 4,69,247, said the Ministry of Health and Family welfare on Wednesday morning. The recovery of 10,207 patients in the last 24 hours has also increased the cumulative tally to 3,40,28,506. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.36 per cent, the highest since March 2020.

UP BJP gets into yatra mode ahead of Assembly polls
