SC slams Delhi govt for opening schools amid severe air pollution

The Chief Justice said the 'court will appoint an authority to oversee the government's air pollution controlling measures', citing severe air pollution levels in the national capital. A bench headed by Chief Justice N.V. Ramana asked senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the Delhi government, that 'when people are working from home then why children are being forced to go to school'.
India registers 9,765 fresh Covid cases, 477 deaths

With the addition of 477 fatalities, the total death toll has climbed at 4,69,724. The recovery of 8,548 people in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally of the recovered patients to 3,40,37,054. Consequently, the recovery rate stands at 98.35 per cent, the highest since March 2020. India's active caseload presently stands at 99,763. It constitutes 0.29 per cent of the country's total positive cases, which is lowest since March 2020.
Father liable to maintain son till he becomes a major, rules SC

A bench of Justices M.R. Shah and A.S. Bopanna said: "Whatever be the dispute between the husband and the wife, a child should not be made to suffer. The liability and responsibility of the father to maintain the child continues till the child/son attains the age of majority. It also cannot be disputed that the son has a right to be maintained as per the status of his father."

He also advocated the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), and assured that persecuted minorities from countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan would be granted citizenship in India. 470L farmers benefited from wheat, rice procurement by FCI in 3 yrs

A question was asked by Kesineni Srinivas, an MP from Vijayawada parliamentary constituency, about the procurement undertaken by FCI in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for the last three years. To this question, the Ministry said that since 2018, 160.06 LMT of paddy/rice was procured to Andhra Pradesh and 220.97 LMT to Telangana. Both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are DCP states wherein procurement is undertaken by the state government through its agencies, it added. In both the states, there is no wheat procurement and only paddy/rice is procured.
165 terrorists killed, 14 apprehended in J&K this year: Govt

Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai told the Rajya Sabha, in a written reply, that there has been a substantial decrease in incidents of infiltration and terrorist attacks in the Union Territory since 2018. As on October 31 this year, a total of 28 incidents of infiltration occurred as against 51 in 2020, 141 in 2019 and 143 in 2018.
ICMR approves nine systems for molecular testing of SARS-CoV-2

The nine systems of Covid testing include Open system RTPCR, TrueNat, GeneXpert, RTLAMP, CRISPR/TATAMD CHECK/FELUDA, Abbott ID Now, Accula by Thermofisher, Rapid RTPCR, and CoviDx DirectPlex. All the labs which will conduct the tests would follow the ICMR and Health Ministery guidelines to ensure genome sequencing of all positive cases, the ICMR said on Wednesday.
