E-vehicles, more women drivers; Delhi govt to transform public transport system
Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot in an interview with IANS talked about electric vehicles, the participation of more women in public transportation and other initiatives by the Delhi government to "revolutionise the system". Excerpts from the interview:

Highway opened, farmers allowed activities 20 days after Poonch anti-terror operation
Police said farmers have been advised to report any suspicious movement they might see in the area. One of J&K's longest anti-terror operations was started on October 11 in the Bhatta Durrian forest of Mendhar tehsil in Poonch. The area of this operation was extended on October 14 to Thanamandi area in Rajouri district after nine soldiers, including two junior commissioned officers (JCOs) were killed and two policemen and another soldier injured in firing exchanges with the terrorists.

Rajasthan sees 70.41% voting in bypolls for 2 seats
A 100-year-old woman Mohini Bai voted in Vallabhnagar, Udaipur, said Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta, adding that a total of 638 polling stations were set up in Vallabhnagar and Dhariawad assembly seats of the state. Out of these, the number of sensitive polling stations was 119, which were monitored through live webcasting, he said.
Over 78% average turnout in bypolls to 9 seats in 3 NE states
Election officials said that no untoward incident was reported from anywhere. Strict Covid protocols were followed in all polling stations, with a Covid Nodal Officer in each and provisions of sanitisers, thermal scanning and social distancing. The highest turnout of 81.29 per cent was recorded in Mizoram, followed by Meghalaya, with 80.86 per cent, and 73.38 per cent in Assam. In Guwahati, Assam's Chief Electoral Officer Nitin Khade, who along with other officials, monitored the polling process through webcasting, said that no incident occurred in any of the five assembly constituencies.
