Maharashtra: ED arrests Anil Deshmukh in money laundering case

Anil Deshmukh, 72, had gone to the ED office on Monday afternoon for probe into the allegations of Rs.100 crore extortion levelled by former Mumbai Police Commissioner, Param Bir Singh. Deshmukh, a senior Nationalist Congress Party leader, had said he was appearing before the ED voluntarily as he respected the law, and the arrest came on expected lines.

A bench of Justices A.M. Khanwilkar and Ajay Rastogi said there cannot be a total ban on firecrackers, and rather, there is need to strengthen the mechanism against the use of banned chemical substances like barium salts. "The order has to be consistent. West Bengal can't be an exception," it said.

According to sources, the Ministry has taken a serious view on the alleged charges of corruption against the Mumbai Zonal Director of NCB Sameer Wankhede and also the way the arrests were made in the case. Sources, aware of these developments, claimed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was also annoyed with the NCB officials about the new turns in the case which took place during the last week.

Delhi logs 45 Covid cases, no death in nine days

However, no Covid fatality has been recorded in the city in the last nine days. The Covid infection rate in the national capital stands at 0.08 per cent. The active cases tally stands at 348 in the national capital. With 46 patients recovering in the last 24 hours, the total recoveries rose to 14,14,431 so far, the health bulletin said.
Delta variant detected in 99% samples: Delhi government data

Genome sequencing data revealed that delta variant was detected in 99 per cent of the sample in October, 97 per cent in September, 86 per cent in August and 52 per cent in July. In the months of April and May, when the second wave of Covid was at its peak, 54 and 82 per cent of total samples sent for sequencing were respectively detected with the delta variant.
