Piyush Goyal appointed Leader of House in Rajya Sabha

In the coming monsoon session starting from July 19, Goyal will take the place of Thaawarchand Gehlot, who has been appointed governor of Karnataka. Earlier, Goyal held the post of deputy leader of house in Rajya Sabha, when Gehlot was leader of house. As deputy leader of the house, Goyal had played an active part in the ruling party's efforts to manage the floor of the house.
Monsoon Session: LS Speaker calls all-party meet on July 18

The meeting is likely to begin from 11 a.m. at Parliament premises, said sources. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi will also interact with the floor leaders during the meeting and take their views before the session starts its 19-day business from July 19, said sources. The meeting has been called a day before the Monsoon Session, which will run between July 19 and August 13, the first Session after the second wave of ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Perplexed: SC cognizance on Kanwar Yatra, notice to UP govt

A bench headed by Justice R.F. Nariman issued notice to the Centre and the Yogi Adityanath government and fixed the matter for hearing on Friday. The top court said that it has read something in the newspaper on Wednesday that Uttar Pradesh has chosen to continue with the Kanwar Yatra while Uttarakhand, with hindsight of experience, had said there will be no yatra.

Pace of vaccination is critical for India to boost its economy, which has been impacted by the severity of the second wave in May and June. New Delhi will not resume exports of Covid 19 vaccines until all adults in the country get fully vaccinated. Insiders refuted reports saying that India would start supplying vaccines to other countries. Once the adults are vaccinated, the government will have to look at the children.
Another fake call centre busted in Delhi, 19 arrested

In a major crackdown, the Delhi Police on Wednesday said it has busted a fake call centre for allegedly impersonating as officials of the Ministry of Finance Department of the US, which provides free grants to the selective citizens and arrested 19 people. A senior police official said that the Cyber Cell of the South District police of Delhi Police busted an international call centre cheating US citizens from Malviya Nagar area.
At 38,792, India sees rise in new Covid cases

This is the 36th consecutive day when India reported less than one lakh new coronavirus cases. But the numbers are higher than Tuesday which stood at 31,443 and was the least recorded new Covid cases in 118 days. The active cases have now come down below 5 lakh. The country has 4,29,946 active cases presently and has witnessed a total of 4,11,408 deaths so far.
Uttarakhand calls off Kanwar Yatra, UP keeps it on

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to ensure that only a minimum number of people should participate in the annual Kanwar Yatra and strict implementation of Covid protocols, particularly social distancing, must be ensured. While the Uttarakhand government has called off the Kanwar yatra, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to go ahead with the same but with Covid safety protocols.

Addressing the media briefing of the health ministry, joint secretary in the ministry Luv Agarwal shared pictures of crowded markets and tourist places like Sukhna lake in Chandigarh and Bhushi dam in Maharashtra. He said, "Continued gross violations of Covid appropriate behaviour can nullify the gains so far. The third wave may be caused because of this behaviour."
Congress says Nana Patole's comments 'misconstrued'

"Nana Patole's statements were distorted, taken out of context... It was all a creation of the media which created a misunderstanding. He has also explained what he actually meant," Maharashtra in charge H.K. Patil told media persons. Congress on Tuesday said that its Maharashtra unit President Nana Patole's recent controversial remarks were "misconstrued" and "taken out of context".
