President to celebrate Dussehra with jawans at Drass
"On October 14, the President will perform Sindhu Darshan puja at the Sindhu Ghat in Leh. He will also interact with the troops at Udhampur in the evening," a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said on Wednesday. On October 15, the President will pay tributes at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass and interact with the officers and jawans, it added.
India withdraws Covid restrictions imposed on visiting UK national
The travel advisory that imposed additional checks and quarantine on those arriving from the UK has been relaxed by the Union Health Ministry, an official statement said. The move comes to reciprocate the UK government's decision to discontinue the mandatory quarantine and checks for Indian visitors vaccinated with Covishield.

In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said China has never recognised the state. "China's position on the boundary issue is consistent and clear. The Chinese government has never recognised the so-called Arunachal Pradesh established unilaterally and illegally by the Indian side and is firmly opposed to the Indian leader's visit to the area concerned," Zhao said.

Centre to procure 60L DNA vaccines in October
The ZyCov-D vaccine was approved by India's regulatory authority in August 2020. The three-dose DNA built vaccine has 66.6 per cent efficacy against Covid. Instead of a needle, it uses an applicator to inject the skin with lab-produced DNA. The Zydus Cadila vaccine was scheduled to be rolled out in the first week of October. On being asked about the delay in the vaccine roll out, NITI Ayog Member (Health) Dr V.K. Paul said last week that Zydus Cadila vaccine was not administered using conventional syringes or needles, but through an applicator, which will be used for the first time in the country.
Delhi to soon get QR-based driving licenses, RCs
As per a statement, the new driving licence will have an advanced microchip with features like Quick Response (QR) code and Near Field Communication (NFC). The new RC will have the owner's name printed on the front while the microchip and the QR code would be embedded at the back of the card.
Andhra temple decorated with Rs 5 crore currency notes
The deity at Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari temple in Nellore district has been decked up with currency notes worth Rs 5.16 crore. Over 100 volunteers worked for several hours to decorate the temple with notes of the denominations of Rs 2,000, Rs 500, Rs 200, Rs 100, Rs 50, and Rs 10. The organisers adorned the deity with garlands and bouquets of origami flowers made from the currency notes of various denominations and colours. The currency notes of different colours have added to the beauty of the temple attracting devotees from various places.
Swacch Bharat Mission to continue till 2025-26
"The mission will focus on sustainability of Open Defecation Free (ODF) outcomes, achieving scientific processing of Solid Waste in all cities, and managing Wastewater in cities with less than 1 lakh population in Census 2011 [cities not covered under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT)] under which all cities will be made to achieve at least 3-star garbage free certification," said a statement on Tuesday.
India to need over 5,600 GW solar power to reach net zero by 2070: CEEW
At present, India has 100 GW of installed renewable energy (RE) capacity, of which solar comprises 40 GW, and it aims to enhance the RE capacity to 450 GW by 2030. Net zero is a concept where a country, a region or for that matter an office, basically any unit, withdraws or mitigates as much carbon emission as it requires.
